Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo insists that his team should be "proud" of their performance in Euro 2012 despite losing to Spain in the semi-finals.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that his team should be "proud" of their performance in Euro 2012 despite losing to Spain in the semi-finals.

Paulo Bento's men lost to the Spaniards on penalties, but the Real Madrid striker claims that his side were hard done by.

"I think it was a good tournament on our part. We did very well. We are amongst the best four teams in Europe and the only reason we do not reach the final is because we were not lucky, " he told SIC.

"We have to be proud of what we did, but we are a bit frustrated because we know we could reach the final.

"I gave my best, so I am satisfied with that I did. We deserved to be in the final, but we were not lucky."

Portugal crashed out after after Joao Moutinho and Bruno Alves missed their spot kicks. Ronaldo confirmed after the game that he was next in line to step up.
