Julian Draxler: 'There was a gulf in class against Real Madrid'

Schalke 04 player Julian Draxler admits that they were beaten by a superior side in the heavy defeat to Real Madrid.

Julian Draxler has admitted that Schalke 04 were beaten by the better team in the 6-1 thrashing against Real Madrid in their Champions League last-16 match.

Los Blancos were dominant all over the pitch, regularly slicing through the Schalke defence.

Speaking to reporters, Draxler praised the fans for their support but accepted that his side made too many mistakes.

"The difference in quality was clearly noticeable. We have to thank our fans for the great support they gave us throughout. We made several mistakes and Real punished them clinically," Draxler is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

The second leg at the Bernabeu will be played on Tuesday, March 18.
