New Rangers director Douglas Park to investigate club's finances

Rangers director Douglas Park says he will investigate why the Scottish Championship club has spent £70m in the past four years.

New Rangers director Douglas Park has said he will uncover the reasons why the club has spent £70m over the past four years.

The Scottish Championship club have experienced a number of financial setbacks after being demoted to the bottom division in 2012, but finally look like they are past the worst stages of that following Dave King's takeover last week.

Former owner Craig Whyte was sued by the club, and Charles Green's ownership of the Glasgow outfit brought further financial instability to Ibrox.

"If further shocks are lurking among the paper and electronic trails then so be it. They will have to be faced and dealt with appropriately," Park told BBC Sport.

"This club has been badly neglected and it has been used for the benefit of individuals.

"A new board is being put in place and it is our intention to begin immediately the process of repairing the considerable damage caused to this great club by people who should never have been allowed anywhere near Rangers."

Rangers are currently 23 points behind Scottish Championship leaders Hearts, and look likely to require a playoff victory if they are to return to the top division next season.
