How Rangers could line up against Celtic

Ahead of Saturday's Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium, Sports Mole looks at how the home side may line up.

Rangers will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership this weekend when they welcome Celtic to Ibrox Stadium.

The Gers head into the second Old Firm derby of the season sitting three points behind their opponents after playing a game more.

After netting a late goal to beat St Johnstone 2-1 last week, Rangers were pegged back 1-1 late on by Hibernian in their most recent outing to leave them playing catch up, but they have a big chance to close the gap on Saturday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at the options available to Steven Gerrard for his side's final outing before the winter break.

Possible RAN XI vs. CEL

The first name on Gerrard's team sheet will be striker Alfredo Morelos, who took his tally for the season to 16 goals in 20 league and cup outings with his opener against Hibs.

Gerrard has called for the other players in his squad to "stand up and be counted", with a number of regulars and fringe players currently nursing injury problems.

Connor Goldson is the latest injury scare for the Gers after limping off the field on Boxing Day, joining Ryan Kent, Gareth McAuley and Scott Arfield as fitness doubts for Saturday.

Arfield appears to be the most likely to return to action this weekend, potentially meaning a place in central midfield alongside Ryan Jack and Ross McCrorie, giving Lassana Coulibaly a rest following a hectic run of fixtures.

Borna Barisic missed Rangers' draw against Hibernian, meanwhile, so Andy Halliday is therefore expected to slot in at left-back once again.
