Blatter: 'Racism controversy is closed'

FIFA president Sepp Blatter believes that the issue surrounding his controversial comments regarding the handling of racism is now "closed".

The 75-year-old sparked outrage after he stated that racist remarks on the field of play can be solved with a handshake.

The comments urged individuals in the world of football to call for Blatter's resignation. However, the German businessman believes that it's time to draw a line under the issue.

"I can only say this item for me is closed," said Blatter. "There is no tolerance of racism, I have been interpreted as such and I have made my apologies. I cannot say anything more."

The head of the governing body has landed himself in hot water a number of times throughout the years.
