Fernandes 'proud' to see QPR in Malaysia

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has spoken of his pride at seeing his club playing in his native Malaysia.

The R's opened up their pre-season campaign yesterday evening with a 5-0 victory over a Sabah Select XI.

Having witnessed his team become the first Premier League side to play a fixture in Sabah, AirAsia owner Fernandes described the 90 minutes as "something really special".

"It's a special moment for myself, Kamarundin and Ruben because we're all from Malaysia and bringing QPR out here was always something we wanted to do," he told the club's official website.

"To see QPR in action on Malaysian soil, especially in Sabah which has been a great market for AirAsia, is a dream come true.

"We're the first Premier League club to come to play in Sabah and that's something really special for us all."

Fernandes took control of the Loftus Road-based side last August.
