Jermaine Beckford wins League One Player of the Month

Preston North End striker Jermaine Beckford has landed the League One Player of the Month award after netting five times from seven appearances in a prolific April.

The 31-year-old hitman has proved instrumental in helping the Lilywhites establish a seven-match unbeaten run this month as they sit on the brink of Championship promotion.

Simon Grayson's side, who sit one point above MK Dons in second, will advance into England's second tier if they beat Colchester United away in their final game of the season on Sunday.

Beckford kicked off his month with a winner in the 1-0 victory over Rochdale, before netting two more along with a brace in the 3-1 win at Notts County on April 21.
