Fifty apply for Portsmouth job

Fifty managers have reportedly applied for the vacant manager's job at Championship side Portsmouth.

Pompey have been without a manager since Steve Cotterill opted to take over at league rivals Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

The club's chief executive, David Lampitt, has revealed that the board are not rushing their decision.

"Getting the right man is more important for us than getting someone in quickly," Lampitt told The News.

"We have a good, credible and testing process to get what we want.

"It's the number one priority. It's not that we want to take more time than is necessary but we want to get it right."

Former Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll is the bookmakers' favourite to land the job.
