The home side had an early chance when Ryan McCann floated a cross to Scott Ross, which forced a save from Rangers keeper Neil Alexander.
The league leaders were slow to get in to the match, creating few chances in the opening 20 minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 30th minute as a Lee Wallace strike was parried to Francisco Sandaza, who fired the ball into the net to put the visitors ahead.
The goal boosted Rangers, and they started the second half pushing for another goal, with Ian Black, Andrew Little and Chris Hegarty among those looking dangerous for the away side after the break.
Peterhead's hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Rory McAllister was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the game, leaving the hosts a man short for almost half an hour.
