Serie A clubs vote to give Parma emergency funds to finish season

A majority of top Italian teams vote in favour of giving Parma an emergency fund to help them finish their remaining fixtures of the Serie A season.

A majority of top Italian teams have voted in favour of giving cash-stricken Parma emergency funds to help them finish the season.

The club will receive £3.6m [€5m] from each side in order to help them complete the rest of their games, which would have potentially been postponed indefinitely.

Sixteen out of the top 20 Serie A clubs voted in favour of the gesture, with three abstaining from the vote and Cesena being the only team voting against it.

According to ESPN, the club's debts are close to £72m [€100m], while players reportedly have not been paid in months, adding pressure to the owners.

The money that will be given to Parma by the other Serie A clubs is from fines for crowd trouble and other violations.

Parma's match with Atalanta is now likely to be given the go ahead, after their last two games were postponed indefinitely due to the club being unable to pay for basic services such as electricity and security.
