Jonathan Schmid scores seven minutes from time to rescue a point for Freiburg against Nuremberg in the Bundesliga.

Freiburg have been held to a 1-1 draw by Nuremberg away from home in the Bundesliga.

The hosts went ahead after 33 minutes thanks to Timmy Simons's penalty.

Cedric Makiadi handled the ball inside the Freiburg area, and Simons made no mistake from 12 yards.

Makiadi went close to redeeming himself just two minutes later when he tried his luck with a header from close range, but failed to keep it on target.

Tomas Pekhart could have doubled Nuremberg's advantage on the stroke of half time with a header, but could not direct it on goal.

Freiburg poured forward for the equaliser in the second half, with Max Kruse, Ivan Santini and Jonathan Schmid all testing the home side's defence.

It was Schmid who eventually rescued a point for the visitors when he found the target with a right-footed shot from close range on 83 minutes.
