Kalvin Phillips sent off in West Ham defeat at Nottingham Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi and Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the goals as Nottingham Forest recorded a 2-0 win over 10-man West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The result has seen Forest rise to 15th in the table, now five points clear of the relegation zone, while West Ham's ninth league defeat of the campaign has left them in eighth, five points behind sixth-placed Manchester United.

David Moyes's side have now lost their last three in the league, while they are without a victory in any competition since the end of December, when they overcame Arsenal in England's top flight.

The first shot of the game came from Anthony Elanga in the sixth minute, but his effort was brilliantly kept out by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

Both sides were struggling to get going at the City Ground, with the match lacking quality, but Kalvin Phillips saw a low strike kept out by the Forest goalkeeper in the 28th minute before Areola was forced to deny Morgan Gibbs-White.

Forest managed to make the breakthrough in the closing stages of the first period, though, with Awoniyi clinically finding the back of the net after lacklustre defending from the Hammers.

West Ham were doing their best to carve out opportunities at the City Ground, with the majority of their strong work coming from Mohammed Kudus, but he was struggling to produce quality delivery into the Forest box.

James Ward-Prowse had a chance to level the scores from a free kick, but his effort was always missing the target, which summed up the quality on display from Moyes's side on the afternoon.

Hudson-Odoi then set up an opportunity for Awoniyi in the period that followed, but his header was just over, with Forest still leading 1-0 heading towards the final 20 minutes of action.

The afternoon went from bad to worse for West Ham in the 71st minute when Phillips was handed a red card for picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.

Forest then secured the points deep into stoppage time when Hudson-Odoi fired home from inside the box to cap a miserable afternoon for the Hammers.
