Alex Neil: 'First half not good enough'

Norwich City boss Alex Neil says that his side were not good enough in the first half in their 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

Norwich City manager Alex Neil has bemoaned his side's inability to keep hold of possession in the first half as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

Jamie Vardy's penalty and Jeffrey Schlupp's strike put the Foxes 2-0 up shortly after the break, and though Dieumerci Mbokani scored his first goal for the Canaries, it was not enough to rescue a point.

Neil admitted that his side were not good enough in controlling the game and limiting Leicester's options on the break in the first 45 minutes, and voiced his disappointment at the result.

"In the first half we have got to try and control games, we are a possession-based team and they are a counter attacking team," he told reporters. "The pace that we moved the ball at was not good enough and they took advantage of that.

"We spoke about how that is when we are at our most dangerous, when we have got possession of the ball. [In the second half] we changed the way that we played, much more quickly with two up top, and looked to put things forward. We were more direct and it worked for us.

"We had enough chances, but our sloppiness and poor play cost us in the first half. We had enough to get something, but I think that when you give yourself two goals to chase you make it difficult."

The defeat saw Norwich slip to 13th in the Premier League table ahead of the international break.
