Niger earn historic point

Niger have earned their first ever point at the Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a goalless draw with Congo DR in Group B.

The best chance of an otherwise dull first half went Niger's way as Modibo Sidibe saw his curled effort come back off the post.

The Congolese goal came under threat soon after the restart when Moussa Maazou's fierce drive was turned away by Robert Kidiaba.

Maazou and Kidiaba continued their personal duel on the hour, with the shotstopper reacting instinctively to push away the striker's header.

Congo striker Tresor Mputu Mabi nearly broke the deadlock with 20 minutes left on the clock, but his drive flashed wide of the post.
