Nice have given themselves breathing space in the Ligue 1 relegation fight with a 1-0 win against bottom-side Auxerre.

Fabian Monzon's 36th-minute penalty was enough for the hosts to claim all three points, lifting them into 12th and four points clear of the drop zone.

The Argentine defender converted the spot-kick after Cyriaque Rivieyran had fouled Franck Dja Djedje in the box.

Auxerre offered little resistance to Nice, who secured the vital victory. The visitors are now five points from safety with five games remaining.
