UEFA approves new Nations League to begin in 2018

UEFA approves new Nations League

UEFA has announced that a new competition called Nations League will be held between September and November in 2018.

The new format aims to replace a number of international friendlies and will require each country to play six matches from four groups made up of three or four teams.

The separate divisions will be decided on rankings and the winners of the four groups will play semi-finals and a final in June 2019.

A spot in the finals of Euro 2020 will automatically be awarded to the four semi-finalists of the Nations League, which also features promotion and relegation.
