Togo footballers among dead in bus crash

Leading Togo footballers were reportedly among the dead after a bus tumbled into a ravine and caught fire.

At least six people have been killed in the accident, which occurred near the city of Atakpame, 100 miles north of capital Lome.

Associated Press reports one of the survivors, goalkeeper Mama Souleyman as saying: "We do not know how we managed to get out of the accident."

Early last year two members of the Togo national team were killed by gunfire in a raid on the team bus in Angola which led to the country's most famous football son, Emmanuel Adebayor, retiring from the international scene.

The 27-year-old forward, who is currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, only felt safe to return to the national side earlier this month for a World Cup 2014 qualifier.
