Sion sack Gennaro Gattuso

Swiss outfit Sion have sacked manager Gennaro Gattuso with the club languishing in fifth position in their domestic table.

The former Italian international, who became player-coach of the team in February, will remain on the playing staff next season.

"[Management] hope the club's youth, along with the regular staff, can seize their chance and their desire and willingness will give FC Sion the new impetus they currently need," a club statement said.

Gattuso is currently on the sidelines with a muscular injury.
