Prince Ali: 'I'll fix the mess that FIFA are in if I'm elected'

Prince Ali vows to "fix the mess" that FIFA is in as he bids to oust Sepp Blatter and become the new FIFA president.

Prince Ali has vowed to "fix the mess" that has engulfed FIFA if he is elected ahead of Sepp Blatter for the presidency today.

The candidate addressed the Congress this afternoon and referred to the recent corruption scandal in his speech.

Football's world governing body was rocked when seven officials were arrested in Zurich on allegations of bribery, money laundering and racketeering.

Blatter, who claimed earlier today that "you can't ask everybody to behave ethically just like that", is favourite to be re-elected for a fifth term.

Prince Ali, who is standing against him, said: "Nothing in life exists without hope. Even the darkest night can be broken with a new dawn. We want transparency, inclusiveness and accountability. Everyone pulling in the same direction for the good of FIFA and football.

"Today is about taken the first step to change. We must show the world the FIFA family is committed to the game. We stand here today at a crossroads for football and a strong leader is needed to fix the mess we are in. I will stand as that.

"I give you my word I will honour the game, without interference. I ask you for the honour of your confidence in me. I humbly ask you for your vote. I ask you to listen to your conscience."

Several FIFA officials are alleged to have paid or received bribes of more than $100m (£65m) from the 1990s to the present day.
