Carpi complete meteoric rise with promotion to Serie A

Minnows Carpi promoted to Serie A

Italian minnows Carpi have completed a remarkable rise through the divisions by securing a place in Serie A.

The club, which has won promotion in four of the last five seasons, booked their spot in the top flight by drawing 0-0 with Bari to move 12 points clear of third-placed Bologna in Serie B.

Carpi's meteoric rise began in the 2009-10 season when the team was promoted from Serie D, then the fifth tier of Italian football, going on to win promotion in two of the next three campaigns.

"It's been an extraordinary journey and I'm delighted with this promotion," Carpi manager Fabrizio Castori told Sky Sports News. "This team has improved step by step and these lads have a great future."

It is yet to be confirmed where Carpi will play their Serie A fixtures, as the team's Sandro Cabassi stadium has a capacity of just 4,144.
