Mexican league footballers receive abuse after 'kiss'

Two Mexican footballers have received homophobic abuse after sharing a celebratory kiss on the field.

Tigres UANL wing-back Israel Jimenez and keeper Nahuel Guzman embraced as their side secured a fourth league title, sparking a wave of criticism on social media.

The club's Wikipedia entry was also updated to read: "The Tigers have been named Champions of the 2015 playoff tournament between Mexican's premier league football teams.

"It is worth mentioning that this championship game was sadly tarnished by displays of homosexual affection that could not be contained and were expressed by two if its players at the end of the match.

"Showing once more that in the north the men give it to each other."

Tigres claimed the Liga MX title with a penalty-shootout win over Pumas UNAM.
