Tranmere Rovers tightened their grip on top spot with a 5-2 victory away Crawley Town in the game of the day in League One this afternoon.

Hosting Crawley at one stage had the match level at two goals apiece, only for Jake Cassidy, Andy Robinson and Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpo to strike to claim the points for the Merseysiders.

There were also a big win for Notts County, who notched three unanswered goals against Portsmouth. Yoann Arquin claimed two of County's goals against travelling Pompey.

Elsewhere, Dean Bowditch netted a hat-trick for MK Dons during their 4-1 win at Bury.

Swindon Town got back to winning ways against Bournemouth thanks largely to Matt Ritchie, who scored twice during a 4-1 triumph.

However, there was no winning start for new Coventry City boss Mark Robins as visiting Carlisle United left the Midlands with a 2-1 victory.
