Joey Barton handed one-match ban

Joey Barton has been issued with a one-match ban after admitting to breaking the Scottish Football Association's betting rules.

The midfielder, who is out of work after having his contract at Rangers terminated last week, was charged by the SFA in October.

The 34-year-old was accused of placing 44 bets on football matches between July 1 and September 15, which breached rules prohibiting footballers, coaches, club officials and referees from gambling on any football matches around the world.

Barton left Rangers just six months into a two-year deal after he had a training ground bust-up with teammate Andy Halliday in September.

The midfielder played just eight games for the Scottish club.
