Former FIFA chief Blazer handed lifetime ban

Former FIFA executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been handed a lifetime ban from all football-related activity.

The world governing body's chamber of ethics passed down the punishment in the wake of recent allegations of corruption.

Blazer is charged with committing "various acts of misconduct", which includes the "offer, acceptance, payment and receipt of undisclosed and illegal payments, bribes and kickbacks".

The ban, which prevents the 70-year-old from taking part in any kind of activity at both national and international level, is effective from today.

It recently emerged that Blazer, who has admitted to accepting bribes for both the 1998 and 2010 World Cups, agreed to go undercover to help unearth information for the US government regarding high-profile corruption within FIFA.
