Irish football head John Delaney doubts Sepp Blatter will complete term

The Football Association of Ireland's chief executive John Delaney has predicted that Sepp Blatter will fail to complete his four-year term in office.

The Swiss was re-elected earlier today after his rival Prince Ali withdrew from the race, but Delaney believes the corruption scandal that has engulfed the governing body will cut his latest tenure short.

"I still think this is the beginning of the end of Sepp Blatter," Delaney told PA.

"I don't see him seeing his four years out - the momentum is too great. We now have to see how best we can use the European muscle."

Earlier this week, seven FIFA officials were arrested in Zurich on suspicion of corruption, money laundering and racketeering following allegations that more than $100m (£65m) has been accepted in bribes since the 1990s.

The Swiss authorities are also investigating the decision to award the next World Cup finals to Russia and Qatar to establish whether there was foul play involved.
