Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boiko Borisov has beaten Dimitar Berbatov to the Bulgarian Footballer of the Year award.
Borisov, who claimed 44% of the vote - with Manchester United forward Berbatov second with 24% - described the outcome as a "protest vote" against the current state of Bulgarian football and suggested that the award should be postponed in the wake of the farcical result.
"It's a protest vote," said Borisov, 52, who plays as an occasional forward for third division Vitosha Bistritsa.
"This vote is not a signal that Borisov is the best player but that the Bulgarian football needs reforms and a new policy.
"I suggest the organisers should annul the vote or they should hand the award to the best young player."
Luboslav Penev's side, who are captained by Aston Villa's Stiliyan Petrov, have failed to reach a world cup finals since 1998.
Their best ever result was reaching the semi-finals in 1994 when they beat defending champions Germany in the quarters.
