Airbus UK manager Andy Preece will make history in becoming the first black, English manager to compete in European competition when his side enter the Europa League next season.

Airbus UK manager Andy Preece will become the first black, English manager to compete in Europe when he leads the Welsh League side out in the Europa League on July 4.

Under the management of Preece, Airbus UK came second in the Welsh League last season - the highest finish in the club's history - and have been rewarded with a chance to compete on a continental stage.

However, Preece believes that black managers are still facing an uphill battle in football.

"Qualifying for Europe with Airbus is a huge thing. If it inspires others to follow, I will have left a legacy," said Preece.

"I don't want to get a job because I am black but at the very least, on what I have done, I feel I deserve a chance to speak about one in the Football League.

"I am not going away. My motivation is to get to the very top. Even if it takes me 1,000 games to get the opportunity I will get there, then people will see. Then they will be asking why has it taken so long."

Preece managed Bury for four years from 1999-2003 and took The Shakers to the League Two playoffs in his final season in charge of the club.
