Ajax fan jailed for keeper attack

The Ajax fan who ran onto the pitch to attack AZ goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado has been jailed for six months for the incident.

The 19-year-old, known only as Wesley W during the trial, was found guilty of "aggravated assault with premeditated malice" at an Amsterdam court.

The assailant entered the pitch during the Dutch Cup tie earlier this month before Alvarado fought back.

The keeper was then dismissed by the referee for kicking the fan, which led to AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek ordering his players off the pitch. The red card was later rescinded by the Dutch Football Association.

The match will be replayed behind closed doors on Thursday, January 19.
