Half-Time Report: Newport County lead Scunthorpe United at the break

Newport County take a 1-0 lead into the break of their League Two game with Scunthorpe United.

Lee Minshull's scrappy goal has given Newport County a 1-0 half-time lead over Scunthorpe United this afternoon.

Dave Syers almost gave Scunthorpe a 12th-minute advantage with a stooping header, but his effort was just too high.

A minute later, Ryan Burge saw his shot saved by Sam Slocombe at the other end.

The lively Burge continued to cause problems for Scunthorpe, but he should have done better than head over from six yards midway through the first half.

However, the home side did take the lead in the 25th minute when Minshull forced the ball over the line after Slocombe could only punch a free-kick into the midfielder's path.

Newport continued to dominate the remainder of the half, but struggled to create any more clear openings.
