Bryan Ruiz, Liam Ridgewell chased by Newcastle United

Newcastle United have submitted deadline bids for FC Twente winger Bryan Ruiz and Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell.

It had appeared yesterday that Fulham looked set to sign 26-year-old Ruiz after Twente accepted a bid from the Whites.

However, the Magpies have now matched that £10.6m fee and have reportedly offered the player greater personal terms than he would receive at Craven Cottage.

Also on manager Alan Pardew's radar is centre-back Ridgewell who handed a transfer request with the Blues yesterday evening.
