Newcastle United have reportedly made a £30m bid to French outfit Lyon in an attempt to sign defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle United have made a £30m approach to sign Lyon's Bruno Guimaraes, according to a report.

The Premier League outfit have already signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month, but more business is expected from the club before the transfer window slams shut.

Eddie Howe wanted to make five signings during this period in order to bolster his squad for the second half of the season and the relegation battle, and midfield is an area he wants to strengthen.

According to the Mirror, Newcastle have made a bid of £30m in an attempt to sign Guimaraes from Lyon, who has also been linked with Arsenal throughout this month.

However, the French outfit are not in any desire to sell him, with the Brazilian a regular in the team, having made 20 appearances in Ligue 1 throughout this campaign.

The 24-year-old had been hoping to move in the next transfer window, as he believes bigger clubs would be available, but the Magpies are providing a great financial incentive to him.
