Newcastle United 'hunting Toby Alderweireld swoop'

Newcastle United are reportedly pursuing a move for Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld before the end of the transfer window.

However, The People claims that the Magpies could face competition for the Belgian international's signature from local rivals Sunderland.

Southampton and big-spending French side Monaco are also interested in a deal for the 25-year-old, and Alderweireld is said to prefer a move to a team playing European football.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is rumoured to be in the market for a new defender and is looking to offload Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa before the end of business on Monday.
