Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has reportedly completed a medical at Newcastle United.
The 27-year-old has suffered a fall from grace in recent times after starting the decade as the first-choice goalkeeper for the likes of Sheffield United and Arsenal.
Ramsdale spent the 2024-25 term with the Saints, who picked up just 12 points across 38 matches in the Premier League, enduring a horrid spell.
The former England international started 30 top-flight matches, and unsurprisingly kept a low total of three clean sheets.
Since making the permanent move from the Gunners to St Mary's last summer, Ramsdale has featured on 32 occasions for Southampton.
Ramsdale 'completes' Newcastle medical
According transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Southampton shot-stopper Ramsdale is heading towards a Premier League lifeline this month.
The report claims that the 27-year-old has entered the final stages of a proposed move to Champions League-competing Newcastle.
Ramsdale has travelled up to the North-East earlier this week, completing a medical with Eddie Howe's side.
It is believed that the goalkeeper will move to St James' Park on an initial loan deal for the course of the 2025-26 campaign.
There is supposedly an option for Newcastle to sign Ramsdale on a permanent deal next summer, although the Magpies are not obliged to.
Lucky break for Ramsdale
After collecting four relegations on his CV, Ramsdale could be set for a return to the European spotlight at St James' Park this season.
The arrival of the 27-year-old in the North-East could spell the end of Nick Pope, who has struggled with injuries in recent times.
Ramsdale will be targeting the number-one jersey and plenty of Champions League minutes under Howe's watch over the next 12 months.
