Iain Dowie: 'I don't understand Joe Kinnear appointment at Newcastle'

Dowie: 'No need for Kinnear'

Former Newcastle United assistant manager Iain Dowie has questioned why the Magpies feel the need to appoint Joe Kinnear as the club's new director of football.

Doubts over the future of manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr have emerged due to the pair having to report to Kinnear with regards to transfers.

"I don't understand why you tinker with something that is working," Dowie told talkSPORT. "I don't think Alan and Graham Carr need another body. It is an area of the club that is working well, so why change it?"

The 66-year-old, who had a five-month stint as Newcastle boss in 2008, signed a three-year contract.
