Danny Simpson targets a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup final.

Dan Simpson has said that Newcastle United are targeting a trip to the FA Cup final ahead of their third-round tie this weekend.

Simpson, who starred in Newcastle's 3-0 win over former club Manchester United in midweek, is eager to overcome another former outfit when Steve Kean's Blackburn Rovers travel to the Sports Direct Arena tomorrow in cup competition.

"We're looking to do well in the cup," he told the club's official website. "We're not one of those teams that takes it lightly – we'd love to get to Wembley so we're going to take it very seriously.

"We need to recover from the Manchester United game now because the Blackburn game isn't far away, but they're coming to our ground which is a bonus because at least we don't have to travel.

"If we can play like we did against Man United, we'll beat them."

Newcastle were beaten 4-3 and eliminated from the Carling Cup at Ewood Park in October.
