Pardew: 'Defeat difficult to take'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has said that his side's 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat to Cardiff City was "difficult to take".

The Magpies had led through Papiss Demba Cisse, but late goals from Craig Noone and Frazier Campbell ensured that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer triumphed in his first game in charge of Cardiff.

"It's difficult to take because we controlled the game apart from the last 20 minutes," Pardew told ITV Sport. "We've managed to lose the game in that spell.

"We had good control and I thought that the guys had a good grip of the game, but it got away from us. A wonder goal got them back into it and the one other chance they had they scored from.

"We're kicking ourselves a little bit. It's a game we should have won. It's been a disappointing day."

Newcastle exited the FA Cup at the third round last year following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion.
