How Netherlands could line up against Turkey in World Cup 2022 qualifier

How Netherlands could line up against Turkey

The Netherlands have been boosted by the news that Memphis Depay is available for their opening World Cup 2022 qualifying fixture away to Turkey.

Lyon winger Depay was initially told that he could not link up with his national side due to restrictions imposed by the French government on travelling during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the Oranje confirmed on Saturday that an exception has been granted after the winger publicly pleaded for the mandatory quarantine regulation to be lifted.

Depay now seems certain to start at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, though Ryan Babel - who plies his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray - is on standby to fill in.

Steven Berghuis is likely to get the nod on the other flank, though Frank de Boer also has Donyell Malen fit and available in that position.

One change expected to be made is in goal, where Jasper Cillessen is back available after recovering from injury, likely seeing Tim Krul drop to the bench.

De Boer has a big selection call to make in central midfield as Donny van de Beek has struggled for form at Manchester United, so Davy Klaassen may get the nod alongside Frenkie de Jong.

Netherlands possible starting lineup: Cillessen; Dumfries, De Ligt, Blind, Wijndal; De Jong, Klaassen; Berghuis, Wijnaldum, Babel; De Jong
