Maarten Stekelenburg added to Netherlands squad

Southampton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has been added to the Netherlands squad for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Czech Republic on Tuesday after Tim Krul sustained a knee injury.

The Newcastle United stopper has been ruled out for the season after he ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Saturday's 2-1 win over Kazakhstan.

The Dutch, who are fourth in Group A, need to beat the Czechs and hope that Turkey drop points against Iceland if they are to claim third place, and with it, a playoff spot.

Netherlands boss Danny Blind is also without first-choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, so Stekelenburg is in line to make his first appearance for his country since 2012.

Netherlands last failed to qualify for a European Championships in 1984.
