Guus Hiddink to quit Netherlands role in the event of Lativa upset

Hiddink: 'I will step down if Latvia beat us'

Guus Hiddink has vowed to quit his post as Netherlands manager if his side lose to Latvia in their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier.

Hiddink has endured a poor start to his second spell as Oranje boss as the Dutch sit third in Group A, six points behind co-leaders Iceland and the Czech Republic after three games.

The 67-year-old only replaced Louis van Gaal - who led them to a third-place finish in the World Cup - in the summer, but he says that he will take the "logical step" and resign if he loses to Latvia next Sunday.

"If we lose to Latvia then I'll take the logical step," he told reporters. "I haven't discussed it with the players but to me a draw too would not be acceptable."

Next Sunday's home clash with the Latvians is scheduled to kick off at 5pm.
