Nacional edge past nine-man Maritimo

Goals from Nuno Sequeira, Rui Correia and Wyllian guide Nacional to a 3-1 victory over nine-man Maritimo in their Primeira Liga match.

Nacional have claimed a 3-1 victory over nine-man Maritimo in their Primeira Liga clash this evening.

The home side took a six-match unbeaten run over their opponents into the contest, with Maritimo's last victory coming in the 2012-13 campaign.

Nacional took the lead in the 14th minute through a strike from Nuno Sequeira as he fired his close-range effort beyond Romain Salin.

The visitors equalised on the stroke of half time when Dirceu managed to raid to the edge of the box and drill a low effort into the bottom corner.

However, Maritimo were reduced to 10 men early into the second half as Raul was dismissed for his second bookable offence.

Nacional capitalised on their numerical advantage to regain the lead when Salvador Agra put cross into the box which was headed into the net by Rui Correia.

The hosts secured their win in the 80th minute as Wyllian raided into the box before he fired a powerful strike past Salin. Matters got worse for Maritimo right before the final whistle when Edgar Costa became their second player to be dismissed.

As a result of their victory, Nacional move above Maritimo in the table into seventh place, while the visitors drop to ninth.
