MK Dons boss Karl Robinson "humbled" by performance in opening-day win

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson admits that he was overwhelmed by the quality of his side's display in their opening-day win over Rotherham United.

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has admitted that he was "humbled" by the performance of his players in their 4-1 win over Rotherham United.

The club began life in the Championship with a goal from Rob Hall in the fifth minute, but Matt Derbyshire brought the Millers level.

However, Danny Collins scored an own goal before further strikes from Dean Bowditch and Carl Baker secured the win for Robinson's men.

"We're really humbled by the players' performance and to come here for our first ever game at this level of English football and to put in an assured performance was great," he told reporters.

"There was a 15-minute spell where we were really poor and they should have gone 2-1 ahead and we scored a very fortunate goal against the run of play and we didn't look back.

"The players looked very assured and it was scrappy in the second half and our ball retention wasn't what I wanted but we're playing a team that has been at this level for 12 months and I don't think I can ask for any more from my players. If I do I'm being a little bit picky! It was important that the players went into this game with no fear."

The Dons play Leyton Orient in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
