Garry Monk: 'Middlesbrough deserved more against Wolverhampton Wanderers'

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk says that his side did not deserve to lose 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their Championship opener at Molineux.

Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has claimed that his side were unlucky to suffer a 1-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A first-half strike from Leo Bonatini earned all three points for Nuno Espirito Santo's charges, with the decisive goal coming from a mistake from Daniel Ayala.

However, while acknowledging that Boro made too many errors, Monk has insisted that the North-East club deserved at least a point from the Championship opener at Molineux.

The 38-year-old told BBC Teeside: "We made too many simple mistakes in the first half and one of those led to a goal.

"In the second half we were the better team. We upped our urgency, especially in the last 25 minutes and we had the best chances in the game.

"We don't feel that we deserved to lose the game. We definitely deserved something from it."

Middlesbrough are next in league action when they host Sheffield United on Saturday, August 12.
