Manchester United reportedly intend on signing a new centre-back before pressing on with their efforts to bring in Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

Manchester United have allegedly put their efforts to sign Bruno Fernandes on hold while they attempt to strengthen their backline.

The Premier League giants have been heavily linked with the Sporting Lisbon playmaker, who contributed 20 goals and 13 assists in Portugal's top flight last season.

However, United have been eager to sign a new centre-back for at least a year, and it appears that is regarded as the most important piece of business over the coming weeks..

According to A Bola, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prioritising the addition of a fresh face in the middle of his defence over introducing a new midfielder to the fold.

Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic is the latest name to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford, although an approach for Leicester City's Harry Maguire remains a possibility.
