Rooney turns down move to China

Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan have revealed that Wayne Rooney rejected a move to the club in the summer transfer window.

Questions have been raised over the Manchester United captain's future due to his failure to hold on to a starting role under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Beijing Guoan's honorary chairman Luo Ning has revealed that they contacted Rooney in the summer regarding a potential transfer, but he rebuffed their offer as he wanted to stay at United.

"We indeed made an approach for Rooney at the beginning of the season but he's informed us that he wants to stay in Manchester United," Luo told Beijing show Sports Night Talks.

"Rooney says he'll keep playing in the Premier League as long as his health allows. We even met with his agent (Paul Stratford)."

The 31-year-old, who set up two goals in United's 3-1 victory over Swansea City last weekend, will come to the end of his current contract in 2019.
