Prospective new Newcastle United owner Peter Kenyon has admitted that he would pursue an ambitious move for ex-Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho should he complete a deal to buy the club. The 65-year-old, who is thought to be in negotiations with current Magpies owner Mike Ashley over a takeover, previously took Mourinho to Chelsea in 2004.

"If I had to take over a great club and I needed to sign a coach, the first one I would think about would be Jose Mourinho," Kenyon is quoted as saying by The Sun. "He is intelligent, he is relevant, he has a vast experience. He is not outdated. I just think he needs the right club. I am sure that I will see Mourinho again be part of a great club. The key is to have the appropriate structure and organisation to insert it so that it can be part of the whole."

Wolverhampton Wanderers could reignite their interest in AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie in the January transfer window, reports in Italy suggest. The 22-year-old was a target for the Midlands outfit over the summer but a move failed to materialise, and according to Calciomercato, Nuno Espirito Santo's side - as well as Monaco - are preparing to return with a fresh approach. The move could see Wolves pay more than the club-record £32.6m spent on Raul Jimenez in July.

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has admitted that his loan spell with Fulham last season helped him to mature as a player. The 24-year-old has begun to force his way into Gunners boss Unai Emery's plans this season, featuring four times in all competitions and bagging three assists in the EFL Cup last week.

"As a player and as a human, I feel like I've grown up quite a lot," Chambers told Arsenal Player. "I feel like I'm bringing the experiences I've had over the past few years into my game too. I just want to keep developing, keep working hard and keep improving things every day. That's all I can do, to focus on being the best player I can."

Alan Smith has warned Tottenham Hotspur that turning around their fortunes will take 'at least a couple of transfer windows'. A week that saw the club suffer a humiliating EFL Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Colchester United ended on a positive note as Mauricio Pochettino's side ground out a 2-1 league win over Southampton yesterday.

"There are no quick fixes for this kind of quandary," Smith wrote in the Evening Standard ahead of the game. "At the very least, a couple of transfer windows will be needed to turn the playing staff into a more purposeful state where everyone is pulling in the same direction. I would imagine that painful reality will worry Pochettino the most. Having set some very high standards, he might have to endure more mediocre stuff over the coming months."
