Manchester United will not break the bank in order to commit Paul Pogba to a new contract, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly made it clear to Paul Pogba that they will not break the bank in order to keep him at Old Trafford on a long-term basis.

The midfielder was strongly linked with a move away from the Red Devils earlier this year, but the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak meant that neither Juventus nor Real Madrid could afford to sign him.

Pogba's contract at Old Trafford has been extended until June 2022, but there remains speculation surrounding his future, with the France international recently talking up a move to Madrid.

According to ESPN, United are keen to hand the World Cup winner a new long-term contract and would be willing to offer him a rise on his £270,000-a-week deal.

However, the report claims that the 20-time English champions are not prepared to hand Pogba 'extortionate wages' to commit his future to the club.

Pogba has been named on the bench for United's last two matches against Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain, with Fred and Scott McTominay preferred in the middle of the park.
