Man United 'unlikely to sign Upamecano this summer'

Manchester United are reportedly unlikely to attempt to sign RB Leipzig central defender Dayot Upamecano during this summer's transfer window.

A €42m (£37.3m) release clause in Upamecano's contract can be activated at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, and a host of teams are said to be in the hunt for the France international.

United have been strongly linked with the 22-year-old amid suggestions that head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be handed funds to bring a new centre-back to the club this summer.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 20-time English champions are unlikely to pursue the Frenchman in the upcoming window.

Romano claims that Upamecano is 'appreciated' by United, but the Red Devils 'have never been in advanced talks' to bring him to Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich are thought to be the favourites for the former Valenciennes youngster, although Chelsea and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest.
