Sporting Lisbon are reportedly closing in on a deal to re-sign their academy product Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly closing in a return to Sporting Lisbon.

Since expressing a desire to leave the club to play Champions League football, the Portugal international has been linked with a departure from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has been working to try to find his client a new club, but the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have all turned down the opportunity to sign the 37-year-old.

A return to Sporting has also been rumoured, and according to Caught Offside, Ronaldo is close to signing for the club.

The report indicates that a deal is nearly done, with Sporting set to begin preparations for a presentation to unveil their former academy product.

Ronaldo scored five goals and provided six assists in 31 appearances for the club before leaving to join United in 2003.
