Gareth Southgate reveals "admin error" in registering wrong player

Gareth Southgate says that Michael Keane did not play against Wales because his twin brother Will was wrongly registered instead of him.

England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that Michael Keane was not registered for his side's clash against their Welsh counterparts on Wednesday.

The English FA registered Michael's twin brother Will for the match, and the error went unnoticed until less than an hour before kickoff.

Unable to field 21-year-old centre-back Michael against Wales in their 2015 European Championships qualifier, Southgate had to name teenager Nathaniel Chalobah in his starting lineup.

"We had an admin error so Michael wasn't registered," The Mirror quotes the 43-year-old as saying.

"I don't know exactly why yet, it's not one I've seen before. I feel really bad for the lad as he's a key part of what we're doing."

England won the match 1-0, thanks to a second-half goal from Nathan Redmond.
