Manchester United's Chris Smalling: 'We will be back next season'

Chris Smalling claims that the Manchester United players have learned their lesson this season and will be stronger for it next campaign.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has insisted that he and his teammates will bounce back stronger next season.

The Red Devils have endured a disappointing 2013-14 campaign under manager David Moyes and are currently seventh in the Premier League with 54 points from 32 matches.

"You learn that you can't take what's happened in the previous years for granted," Soccerway quotes the 24-year-old as saying. "I think this experience will help us make sure we never let this happen again.

"We gave ourselves an uphill task by not starting the season well and, come next season, we will make sure we work harder than ever. This club deserves to be at the top and, hopefully, we'll be back there soon enough.

"We definitely want to finish this season on a high. We need to stick together and, if we can get a good run going now and finish strongly, I think we can go into the new season stronger than ever."

United will take on Newcastle United at St James' Park in the league on Saturday.
